Sous Soul Bern, Spitalgasse 4, 3011 Bern, Switzerland

Es funkelt in die Nacht hinein, und Sterne leuchten am Berner Himmel – mit von der Partie sind der Berner DJ Marco Repetto sowie Jamira Estrada. Sie tritt im Duo mit Miao Zhao auf und anschliessend solo hinter den Decks.

Die Freitagnacht führt in den dunklen Untergrund, wo es funkelt, flimmert, blitzt und dröhnt. Erstmals nämlich lädt das Musikfestival Bern zusammen mit dem Berner Club Sous Soul zur Late Night ein. Im Anschluss an den zweistündigen Marathon von «Chasseurs d’orages» übernimmt der Berner DJ Marco Repetto und spinnt den Abend mit vielschichtigen Beats und sphärischen Ambient-Sounds weiter. Darauf folgt das Duo Jamira Estrada & Miao Zhao, das mit leisen Drones für Orgel und Bassklarinette eine dichte, intime Klangwelt schafft. Den Abschluss gestaltet Jamira Estrada selbst als DJ – und entlässt das Publikum tanzend in die Nacht.

Friday night leads into the dark underground, where it sparkles, flickers, flashes and roars. For the first time, the Bern Music Festival invites you to Late Night together with the Bern club Sous Soul. Following the two-hour marathon of «Chasseurs d’orages», Bernese DJ Marco Repetto takes over and continues the evening with layered beats and ethereal ambient sounds. This is followed by the duo Jamira Estrada & Miao Zhao, who create a dense, intimate soundscape with quiet drones for organ and bass clarinet. Jamira Estrada herself creates the finale as a DJ – and lets the audience dance into the night.

Punk erblickte vor 50 Jahren das Licht der Welt und mutierte später zu New Wave. Auch in Bern begeisterte sich eine Gruppe Junge an der provokativen Mode, Musik und Attitüde. Mittendrin der Berner Fotograf Jürg Hafen, der die bewegten Jahre mit seiner Analogkamera festhielt. Er fotografierte das Geschehen und die bunten Figuren in der Modeboutique Olmo, im Punk Club Spex (wo ein junger Stephan Eicher seine erste Songs aufnahm), in der AK Galerie oder der Quick Bar. Nun hat der Schweizer Fotobuch-Verleger Reto Caduff und der Berner Pop Chronist Sam Mumenthaler das Hafen Archiv durchforstet und einen von Chris Eggli gestalteten Fotoband vorgelegt. “Is it love or just a feeling?” heisst das Buch (ein Songtitel der Berner New Wave Band Starter, bei der Hafen mitspielte) und es ist eine visuelle Zeitreise in ein Bern der später 70er und frühen 80er Jahre. Wir feiern die Veröffentlichung des Buches mit einem rauschenden Fest, dem adäquaten Soundtrack, projezierten Bildern, Clips und Drinks. Die passende Musik wird von DJ Zeitkreisel (Marco Repetto) geliefert!

Punk saw the light of day 50 years ago and later mutated into New Wave. In Bern, too, a group of young people were enthusiastic about provocative fashion, music and attitude.
In the middle of it all was the Bernese photographer Jürg Hafen, who captured the turbulent years with his analog camera. He photographed the events and the colorful figures in the Olmo fashion boutique, the Spex punk club (where a young Stephan Eicher recorded his first songs), the AK Gallery and the Quick Bar.
Now the Swiss photo book publisher Reto Caduff and the Bernese pop chronicler Sam Mumenthaler have searched the harbor archive and presented a photo book designed by Chris Eggli.

“Is it love or just a feeling?” is called the book (a song title by the Bernese New Wave band Starter, in which Hafen played) and it is a visual journey back in time to a Bern of the late 70s and early 80s.

We celebrate the release of the book with a lavish feast, the adequate soundtrack, projected images, clips and drinks.

The appropriate music is provided by DJ Zeitkreisel (Marco Repetto)!

Hier eine Erklärung zu Rewilding:

Wilde Natur als Verbündeter

Rewilding (auf Deutsch oft „Wildnisentwicklung“ oder „Renaturierung“) ist ein Naturschutzkonzept, das darauf abzielt, Ökosysteme durch die Reduzierung menschlicher Eingriffe wiederherzustellen.

Der Fokus liegt darauf, natürlichen Prozessen – wie natürlicher Waldentwicklung oder Flussdynamik – freien Lauf zu lassen, um Biodiversität zu fördern und Lebensräume zu regenerieren.

Ferner ist es theoretisch möglich, durch Rewilding-Projekte die Populationen selten gewordener heimischer Tierarten wieder zu vergrößern.

Als Antwort auf Artenschwund und Klimakrise erfolgte in Europa vor zwanzig Jahren der Ruf nach mehr Wildnis.

Rewilding hat sich in diesem Zusammenhang als ein innovatives Konzept des Naturschutzes entwickelt und etabliert.

Es geht darum, dass mehr großflächige Naturräume sich selbst überlassen werden, natürliche Prozesse wieder vielfältige Landschaften gestalten, gestörte Ökosysteme regeneriert und stark geschädigte Landschaften wiederhergestellt werden.

Durch Rewilding entwickelt die Natur selbst wieder vielfältigere, wildere und klimaresiliente Lebensräume.

Schlüsselarten
Schlüsselarten – also besonders wichtige Arten für die Regenerierung von Ökosystemen – können bei Rewilding-Projekten eine entscheidende Rolle spielen.

So sorgen insbesondere Spitzenprädatoren und grössere Herbivoren für Anpassungen in der Landschaft. Prädatoren wie Luchse und Wölfe verändern das Verhalten von Hirschen und Rehen.

Sie werden vitaler und fressen nicht immer an den gleichen Orten die jungen Baumtriebe ab. Der Druck auf die Vegetation sinkt und dadurch entstehen gesündere Wälder, die uns vor Erdrutschen, Hochwasser und Erosion schützen können.

Durch den Beutefokus auf krankes und altes Wild wird zudem die Gesundheit der Wildpopulationen gefördert.
Grosse Herbivoren, wie beispielsweise Wisente (europäisches Bison) oder Wildpferde fördern die biologische Vielfalt vieler Pflanzen- und Tierarten.

Sie verhindern die Verwaldung und schaffen ein Mosaik aus Wiesen, Wäldern und Gewässern. Zudem verteilen sie Pflanzensamen in Fell und Kot und sorgen für Futter und Lebensräume von etlichen Insekten, Würmern und Vögeln.

Doch nicht nur das, sie sind auch Klimaschützer, denn sie regen das Pflanzenwachstum an und somit wird mehr CO2 in der Biomasse gespeichert.

Durch ihr Gewicht und ihre Bewegungsmuster sorgen sie zudem für eine zusätzliche CO2-Aufnahme des Bodens.

Mit ihren Hufen arbeiten sie pflanzliche Biomasse regelrecht in die oberen Bodenschichten ein, wo das CO2 konserviert bleibt.
Schlüsselarten sind wichtig für eine gesunde Balance von Tier- und Pflanzenarten. Sie sorgen für die Wiederherstellung und Erhaltung wichtiger Ökosystemdienstleistungen, wie sauberes Wasser und fruchtbaren Boden.

Wild nature as an ally

Rewilding (often „wilderness development“ or „renaturation“) is a conservation concept that aims to restore ecosystems by reducing human intervention.

The focus is on giving free rein to natural processes –such as natural forest development or river dynamics– to promote biodiversity and regenerate habitats.

Furthermore, it is theoretically possible to increase the populations of rare native animal species through rewilding projects.

Twenty years ago, in response to species loss and the climate crisis, Europe called for more wilderness.

Rewilding has developed and established itself in this context as an innovative concept of nature conservation.

It is about leaving more large-scale natural areas to their own devices, natural processes reshaping diverse landscapes, regenerating disturbed ecosystems and restoring severely damaged landscapes.

Through rewilding, nature itself is once again developing more diverse, wilder and climate-resilient habitats.

Key species

Keystone species –i.e. particularly important species for the regeneration of ecosystems– can play a crucial role in rewilding projects.

In particular, apex predators and larger herbivores ensure adaptations in the landscape. Predators such as lynx and wolves change the behavior of deer and roe deer.

They become more vital and don’t always eat young tree shoots in the same places. Pressure on vegetation decreases, creating healthier forests that can protect us from landslides, floods, and erosion.

Prey focus on sick and old individuals also promotes the health of wild populations.

Large herbivores, such as bison (European bison) or wild horses, promote the biological diversity of many plant and animal species.

They prevent deforestation and create a mosaic of meadows, forests and water bodies. They also distribute plant seeds into fur and feces and provide food and habitats for several insects, worms and birds.

But not only that, they are also climate activists, because they stimulate plant growth and thus more CO2 is stored in the biomass.

Their weight and movement patterns also provide additional CO2 absorption by the soil.

With their hooves, they literally work plant biomass into the upper soil layers, where the CO2 is preserved.

Keystone species are important for a healthy balance of animal and plant species. They ensure the restoration and maintenance of important ecosystem services, such as clean water and fertile soil.

Mit diesem Musikwerk definiert Marco Repetto aka Bigeneric seine klangliche Vorstellungswelt der magischen Wildnis des Wolfes. Marco widmet dieses Album dem wertvollen Wesen des Wolfes, das ihn seit vielen Jahren stark inspiriert. Die 12 Tracks auf Faol enthüllen die visionäre Klanglandschaft anspruchsvoller elektronischer Musik, in der Marco Repettos eigenwillige und einzigartige Schaffensweise zu einem Biotop der Klangdiversität verschmilzt und sich den Wolf als Vorbild nimmt, der ebenfalls ein entscheidender Faktor für die Biodiversität ist. Die Zuhörenden verweilen in melancholischen und anmutigen Klanggärten, von warmen Rhythmen von legendären Rhythmusmaschinen und Synthesizer-Klänge umgeben, die immer wieder mit psychedelischen Spielereien geschmückt werden. Dieses Album erinnert teilweise an Marco Repettos frühe Werke aus den neunziger Jahren, dennoch fühlt es sich wie ein Meilenstein futuristischer elektronischer Musik der Neuzeit an. With this musical work Marco Repetto aka Bigeneric defines his sonic imaginary vision of the magical wilderness of the wolf. Marco dedicates this album to the precious being of the Wolf which has strongly inspired him for many years. The 12 tracks on Faol reveal the visionary sound landscape of sophisticated electronic music, where Marco Repetto’s idiosyncratic and unique creative approach merges into a habitat of sound diversity and takes the wolf as a role model, which is also a crucial factor for biodiversity. Listeners linger in melancholic and graceful sound gardens, surrounded by warm rhythms of legendary rhythm machines and synthesizer sounds that are always decorated with psychedelic gimmicks. This album is partly reminiscent of his early works from the nineties, yet it feels like a milestone of futuristic electronic music of the modern era. Stylistically, Faol can be located in the musical zones of electro, electronica, ambient and psychedelia.

immer auf den Spuren friedliebender Wesen, Kreaturen und Tiere welche uns tagtäglich den Weg weisen wie es sein könnte um im Einklang mit Mutter Erde zu leben.

Les Merlas ist ein elektronisches intimes Klanggewebe mit zärtlich feinfühligen Tonspuren, welche sich oft so lange wiederholen bis sich die Wirkung spürbar entfaltet.

German: Im Herbst 2016 beginnt Marco Repetto – Bigeneric – nach einem schweren
gesundheitlichen Einbruch ganz aus der Stille heraus neue feine Klanggewebe zu spinnen, noch
nichtsahnend, Teil des sagenumwobenen Zaubernetzes der Feenkönigin Helva zu werden.
Inspiriert von einer Begegnung mit dem Sagenerzähler Andreas Sommer und der tiefgründigen
Sage um die im Gantrischgebiet lebende Feenkönigin Helva sowie einer weiteren zartfühligen
Botschaft des Universums, lässt Marco Repetto seine elektronischen Zauber–Klangfäden weiter zu
der liebevollen und mystischen Komposition Helva verschmelzen.
Helva ist ein cineastisches Klangwerk mit langen, hypnotisch–meditativen Klangverläufen und
feinfühligen Ambientsounds, das Einflüsse aus der elektronischen Avantgarde und dem
futuristischen Spektrum neuer elektronischer Musik vereint.
Dies ist der spirituelle Soundtrack der Heart Rebels Gang, die unaufhörlich starke, tiefgründige und
schöne Energie in die Welt sendet.


English: In the fall of 2016, having overcome serious health issues, Marco Repetto – Bigeneric –
begins to weave new delicate soundscapes from a place of stillness, unaware of his emerging role
in the fabled magic web of the fairy queen Helva.
Inspired by an encounter with the storyteller Andreas Sommer and the legend of Helva, the fairy
queen who lives on the Gantrisch mountain, and another gentle message from the universe, Marco
Repetto merges his electronic strands of magical sounds into a tender and mystical composition
he names Helva.
Helva is a cinematic work of sound with long, hypnotically mesmeric tonal progressions and subtle
ambient colors, combining influences from the electronic avant–garde and the futuristic spectrum of
contemporary electronic music.
This is the spiritual soundtrack of the Heart Rebels Gang who ceaselessly radiate into the world a
powerful and profound force of beauty.
